Northern Liberties: Umm, Can The White People Get A Little Help Over Here? Hmm?
The People Paper reports on how, despite one of the city’s swiftest-ever gentrifications, buoyed by a real estate speculation game that would have given Lewis & Clark themselves boners, Northern Liberties still has things about it that make it, in addition to an urban dream of intermingled artists and breeders, kind of a shady shithole.
Even tucked up in their beds at night, many Northern Liberties dwellers don’t feel safe.
A recent series of home invasions, robberies and assaults has put much of the community on edge. And worried residents say cops aren’t doing enough to help.
“I’m in a constant state of rage,” said Jesse Gardner, 48, designer of the Liberty Lands park at 3rd and Poplar streets. His home on 4th Street near George was broken into in July while his family slept.
