Talk The Talk: Jason Killinger’s Harsh Mellow

harshHey Jason! Tell these good people who you are.
I’m Jason Killinger. I play bass and sing in Birds of Maya, used to be Trauma Queens.
And you’re like Mr. Psychfreakout- redhashandabsinthejams, right?
Exactly! Well, I’d like to think so, but in reality I just drink Lionís Head and listen to Eagles records. But my favorite songs are usually about Asteroid Farms or Ancient Witches rising from the ashes of burnt leaves in the middle of a mystic forest. That kind of thing.
I know exactly how you feel. Is that what’s gonna be up with HARSH MELLOW tonight at Silk City?
Well. Tonight is going to be the best time this city has had for awhile. Good vibes, heavy jams, and probably a lot of red-eyed friendly folks with big grins. Me, our drummer Ben, and Micheal Gieda (who does Immediate!) will be spinning records, Randy from Pearls And Brass will be doing his, what I’m told is AMAZING, solo blues stuff, and Birds of Maya will be laying down some heavy jams, if the mood is right we may just go all improv.
Damn. Will there be hippy spinning and stuff or will there be some dance floor action? My big worry is that all you new weird hippies are actually tres uptight about getting loose on the dancefloor.
Oh man. No way. This is the exact opposite of an uptight night. This isn’t really new weird stuff, I don’t think. I don’t know what will happen. I expect some dancing to occur. If it has to be hippie spins, so be it. I’m 100% certain there will be some Dead played tonight.
I know that people will think that I’m being sarcastic, but I consider that to be news of the most awesome order.
Ha ha. Good man!!
One last question: Ass, gas, or grass - does anyone ever truly ride for free?
Sure man, free rides for everyone. Take what you need, give what you don’t. That’s how we roll.
