Fishtown Parade Follow-Up: The Freaks Speak
To recap: Last Saturday, there was something called The Fishtown Parade. It was in Fishtown. There was seemingly no political cause or specific celebration behind it, just lots of New Weirdos walking around with face paint, masks, accordions and drums. In Fishtown, the neighborhood that tolerance built. Ahem. Anyhoo, we weren’t there, but we had a feeling that it would be laaaaaaaaaaaaaame. So we asked for your accounts. Problem is, only the freaks wrote in:
Wow, is the rumor true that Philebrity is standing
blindfolded on the shoulders of cynics? I encourage
You to open your heart and lighten up.The parade was just about pulling some friends
together and it worked. There we’re about 50 of us
that gathered throughout the day and I apologize if my
pictures didn’t capture the spirit for You, but
there’s nothing bad about spending a Saturday with a
bunch of good friends, having some honest fun in the
sun. You should try it some time and quit being such a
downer.
More positive vibrations after the jump.
As for the “Yuppie outsiders” comment, what the fuck
is that. Every one of us that gathered IS a
Philadelphia resident and 90% ARE home owners in
Fishtown and hell yeah, we work for a living. What’s
wrong with that?! We also work hard toward making our
home feel safe, connected, friendly, colorful, and
musical. It’s called building a community. Please
stop being the big bad wolf and trying to blow down
our efforts.I’m sick of Philly being ruled my haters, especially
anonymous haters like yourself. Unmask yourself. The
parade is over.If you have any other words. Let’s discuss. I’m open.
Sincerely,
Carrie S. Waterman
[Editor's note: We have it on reasonable authority that Ms. Waterman was the ringleader behind this whole thing. Moments after we recieved this email, we also received a link to 5 more galleries of Fishtown Parade photos. We didn't look. It was more than we could bear.]
Not to be outdone, we heard from others regarding the parade. From another party:
it was†definitely†stupid. and†pretty fun. the kids at the pool liked it. wicker man meets the mummers.
Cryptic, but we think we get the idea.
