Regular readers will know that we’re big Lord Whimsy fans over here at the Phileb. So this is big news: Hot off the heels of securing a UK publishing deal for his book, The Affected Provincial’s Almanack, there is now talk of a movie inspired by the book. Who’s doing the driving? Holy shit, it’s Johnny Depp! Sayeth someone close to the Lord:

Depp is interested in buying book rights for film. The first phase is to buy rights for an 18-month period to see what might be done with the material. Whether or not they buy full rights for film production remains to be seen. Depp wants to play Whimsy, and it looks like there will be meetings with him in the coming months to discuss.

Insane. But who will play Matt Schwartz?
