“How About We Do This: I Lick Your Ass For 750 Words And Then You Hook Me Up With Your Agent. Sound Good?”

banksIn a horrifyingly brazen suck-up maneuver, Jessica Pressler plants mouth to rim on chick-lit softie Melissa Banks. The result?

Well, so what. Most writers tell the same story over and over again (though they usually try to disguise it a little better), and The Wonder Spot is extremely enjoyable. As the title suggests, the narrative is punctuated by moments of insight. Bank has a real knack for articulating the sort of thoughts you’ve had before you know you’ve had them.

That’s our girl. Even when she’s kissing ass, Pressler has a way of letting people know how very lucky they are that it’s her that’s doing the heavy lifting here. She might as well have been like, “Jesus, what the hell can I say that’s good about this book? Oh shit, it’s got words! That’s a start, right?” Atta girl!
