Confession time: For like the past two years, while all of you Johnny New-Wave types have been harping on how great Gang of Four were, oooh, and how influential and angular they were, we’ve been biting our tongues, not really wanting to get into how stupid a lot of these new bands that namecheck them are, lest we be forced to put on the ol’ Professor Valania hat. But enough is enough. While Franz Ferdinand and Bloc Party were breakdancing and writing their LiveJornal pages 18 months ago, Echo & The Bunnymen were still laying it down, much as they had since 1978. Do It Clean. The Cutter. Happy Death Men. Put those in your post-punk revival and smoke ‘em. Well, the Bunnymen are headed back to Philly for the first time in years, and bitches, respect is DUE.
