Finally, A Voice Of Reason In The Y100 Hecklefest: Chopper Dave
![]()
Thank you for your articles on the recent demise of Y-100. As being
personally affected by the situation, 2 friends worked there on salary
not as interns, I feel that this is the best option for the city of
Philadelphia. As a cancer to Philadelphia’s choice of music, Y100 has
helped popularize the likes of Saves the Day, Hoobastank, Nickelback
and countless other throw-away bands, turning this city into a bunch
of meat heads who cry when they hear some 16 year old kid sing about
how he recently broke up with his girlfriend.
Y-100 was not all bad, though. Many of my favorite local bands got
some air-time on Sunday night, the early afternoons where nice to
listen to at work and reminded me of a simpler time of life and Sonic
Sessions were always enjoyable to go to, even if it was The Donnas.
Their raising of money for charity is to be commended.Y-100 was stale and stodgy like my grandfather. When 103.9 WDRE fell
victim to the urban format, we all cried fowl, but Y-100 stepped in
and took its place. It’s only a matter of time until Radio One decides
to start a new alternative/modern rock station, which will invariably
be taken over by The Beat, and the cycle will repeat. It’s radio, it happens all the time. Get over it, Preston and Steve
aren’t funny anyway. You can only take “Micheal Jackson is a child
molester” jokes so far.As a music enthusiast, I feel for the people who lost a portion of
their radio lives and for those that have to reset all of their radio
presets now with seemingly all the stations in Philadelphia changing
frequencies. However, I can not feel bad for the piles of shit that is
forced out of their antennae or for those who rely on Y100 as their
only source for new music. In short, Y100 sucks(ed).
